I've had many fanciful thoughts about Project Natal since it was revealed at E3, yet, none of them has had anything to do with gaming. Sure, if Microsoft would like to use Natal to evolve the Xbox platform, I completely understand. However, I do hope that doing so is actually a Trojan Horse, getting us comfortable interacting with software in new ways and paying for the continued development of the system.

What do I envision?

An avatar (more professional than Milo) that builds databases on those that it encounters, has internet access, and is tied to both Bing and something like Skype.

I could list off some crazy things that could be done with this but, hey, I'm not writing an article. Just think Personal Assistant, voice programmed calenders and appointments, voice activated searches, automated reminders, customizable scripts, etc.

I truly hope Microsoft goes all out with this. And, hey, build a cable input into the back of the next Xbox so I can watch Comcast on my console and never have to be in front of the tv without it on again. ;)

Just watched a video on Youtube, the fighting games look amazing. And I can't wait to see what sports games they have in store. Surely this is just a small step away from playing actual sports.

Matt- Absolutely. That would be an extremely cool implementation of the system. The question is how well it can recognize expression. Molyneux seems very optimistic, but from what I've read, Natal can only recognize 40 points on your body, which might make it difficult for in-depth expression recognition. Only time will tell, I suppose.

I haven't heard anyone even mention the potential this has on AI. I mean, if it can read your facial expressions, then games can tell when you are getting frustrated, or bored and adjust the difficulty accordingly. No longer will games have to provide dialog choices that you have to read and then select with a button.

These are just two simple examples of how any game can take advantage of Natal and automatically makes it anything but a novelty.

To be honest, I'd love to see Natal excel in entertainment other than gaming and productivity. I believe the technology has potential, however its marketing must be perfect. It must be a full-force release and not a fledgling technology that's testing the waters.

I don't think that Microsoft can afford to put the resources into this project for it only to become a novelty.
