That said, it is nowhere near as satisfactory as taking notes in real life, it's true. However, for textbooks, the ability to use searchable text as opposed to indexes is HUGE. Imagine writing a paper and searching for "The Boxer Rebellion" in a book on Modern China rather than having to search in indexes.
