We certainly get shaped greatly by what we experience when we're children, that's for sure. There's something safe about going with a product/brand that you trust. Which is why I don't think brand loyalty will ever die.

My comment is in line with Jessica's, except I'm loyal to most Microsoft products. I think it dates back to when I first got a computer, grew up in the whole Microsoft environment, and learned more about what I could do with the products. Even though I know there are other options out there, I feel a sense of loyalty and support from companies that offer the brands that I've been comfortable using for years.

And now that I think about it, growing up with a certain brand is pretty influential in how loyal or not you are to it.

Haha! I'm a total Apple and Wii fangirl. Never really thought of it as being a “brand loyalty”, but I guess it really is the same thing. Not only do I love Apple products, but I talk about them to my friends, and have gotten in big fights with Apple haters. I don't know the reason I like their products so much though – I guess it's just that I think they create really simple and pretty computers (phones, mp3 players), and I get a lot of joy from them.

I've only read a few things from Seth Godin, but I'll definitely have to take a closer look!
